OCMS is delighted that Rev Dr Emily Onyango was appointed first woman bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya.
Emily received her PhD from OCMS in 2006 and was appointed during the Synod of the Diocese of Bondo, Siaya County, where she has been a priest and canon.
The Anglican Church of Kenya has been reluctant to appoint women to senior positions. Some members of the church are said to have been opposed to such a move saying it would need more consideration. However, times have changed and the church now has a female bishop.
