Jim Harries (PhD theology, University of Birmingham) has engaged theological education using local languages (Luo and Swahili) in Kenya / Tanzania, with an orientation to indigenous churches, since 1988. Jim, who chairs the Alliance for Vulnerable Mission, is adjunct faculty at William Carey International University (California). He has written 14 books, his latest entitled How Western Anti-Racism Harms Africa and How we can do Better, as well as numerous articles. He advocates that some Western missionaries should use local languages and resources in ministry. Jim has shared his home in a Luo village with up to 14 orphan children since 1997.
