Makonen is a former OCMS Board Chair and currently serves as Vice President of Transformation and Training in Edify. Edify is a US-based Christian charity promoting sustainable Christ-centred education in partnership with low-fee independent Christian schools in Africa and Latin America. He has also served with UNDP, Sida, World Vision and Opportunity International as a development practitioner and published several books and articles on topics related to transformational development and microfinance.
