Event Details
Dr. Sara Afshari, OCMS research tutor, will explore the deconversion process of converts from a Muslim background in her lecture. Deconversion, or leaving one’s religion, provides insights into the challenges and obstacles faced by converts before, during, and after their conversion to Christianity. This approach sheds light on the complex process of conversion and its role in shaping identity, agenda setting, worldview development, and sense of belonging. Dr. Afshari will focus on the experiences of Muslim-background converts to Christianity, particularly in contexts with limited church presence, where Christian teaching and information are primarily accessed through digital and social media platforms.
