What is the Gospel?
Editorial
Transformation 1997 (Vol. 14, No. 1, page 1)
True understanding of the Gospel entails fresh understanding of the whole of Scripture. The Gospel relates to human existence at its core in all areas of life, not just the personal. Four biblical passages chosen illustrate that the true task of the Gospel is the discipling and conversion of the nations and the redemption of cultures. The Gospel is the comprehensive divine plan designed by God from the beginning of history to rescue, redeem, remake and conform human existence to his original intention for humanity. Our calling is to communicate and live by the Gospel and demands levels of sacrifice which few are prepared to make - our task is to apply ourselves to the full, knowing that eventual fulfilment will come 'by the Spirit.'

Five Theses in the Significance of Modern Christianity: A Manifesto
Article
Transformation 1996 (Vol. 13, No. 1, page 20)
The dynamic state of African Christianity has a major contribution
to make to religious scholarship as a whole: it poses questions and
yields vital contemporary data which should reawaken study
throughout the Christian world, not only in Africa itself. Further, the
Christian presence has changed in Africa in the twentieth century:
it should no longer be understood as a western factor in African life
but to have acquired an African reality. The five theses provide a
framework on which to base assessment on the significance of the
historical and cultural formation of African Christianity with greater
interpretative depth. The conclusion is emphatically that the radical
change in the nature of the Christian presence in Africa is an
essential subject for theological study. It will lead to an understanding
of the southward shift in the 'centre of gravity' of contemporary
Christianity and its recession in the west and, indeed, point
to the future shape of the Church.
