Flora and the OCMS family

OCMS Family Time

Wednesdays at OCMS are different.  By the time chapel is over people are milling around the library, drinking tea or coffee, greeting visitors, chatting to the visiting speaker and moving chairs and tables for seminar time.  On the way to the loo passing through the kitchen something is different.  Flora has arrived and has begun preparing the community lunch.  There are vegetables being chopped on the table, boling pots on the cooker.  Even though people are rushing through the kitchen to the loo everyone stops to greet Flora as she smiles her big smile says a few words and carries on with her work. She is not just making a meal she is creating a magical atmosphere that everyone can relate to.  Eating with family.

Flora makes everyone feel that OCMS is home.  The cooking smells and activity are familiar and comforting.  Often we forget the effort it takes to have a delicious freshly cooked meal that is a bit foreign and a bit local.  (There are always chips available no matter what.)  We forget about Flora til Wednesday rolls around.  We take for granted not only her cooking skils and friendliness but her sacrifice to be away from her home and yet she makes us all feel at home.

Flora's mum just passed away in Nigeria (I believe)  Her skills were passed from her family to Flora and now we are the grateful recipients.

We grieve your loss Flora.   We are thankful for stirring memories of our own mums and meals with family.

Praying for peace and comfort for you and your family.
