Commissioning Service for the New Executive Director

On November 9th, friends and supporters gathered at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies, to celebrate, give thanks, and join in the commissioning of Dr Paul Bendor-Samuel as the new Executive Director.

Dr Bendor-Samuel is the third director in OCMS’ 33 year history. The service was a joyful celebration reflecting the multicultural nature of the OCMS community. The liturgy and commissioning were moving and inspiring. Dr Christopher Wright’s message from Colossians 1:9-13 reminded those present of the inextricable link between the great purposes of God for all creation and the pursuit of wisdom, fruitfulness and perseverance.  The new Executive Director reaffirmed the commitment for OCMS to be a leading mission studies centre that seeks to be prophetic in nature, a steward of all the gifts God has deposited in it and a servant to the global church.

The congregation was made up of many from the OCMS community, staff, students and trustees, friends from local churches, as well as the family and many friends of Paul and Liz. There were also representatives from Interserve, the mission agency through whom the Bendor-Samuel’s are seconded to OCMS.

All present agreed that the service had been very moving with a deep sense of the presence of God. Most of those who came continued to enjoy fellowship afterwards over lunch.
